Panasonic has launched its TOUGHBOOK Secure range of bespoke services, enhancing computing capabilities for defence customers. The end-to-end offering helps to protect assets and data throughout the device fleet’s lifecycle, and includes mission-specific device configurations, secure deployments, specialised support for deployed assets, and tailored maintenance plans.
The importance of secure device configuration
With TOUGHBOOK Secure, devices can be modified during the manufacturing process to provide a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) computing solution tailored to the customer’s specific requirements, depending on how the device will be used, and by whom. The modular design of TOUGHBOOK notebooks and tablets enables users to only choose the required peripherals and components, such as smartcard and fingerprint readers.
TOUGHBOOK Secure allows devices to be customised down to the finest details. For example, LCD screens can be modified to offer greater control over screen dimming, helping defence teams to avoid detection and reducing reflection and glare. This enhances device and data security, while also ensuring superior discretion for covert field operations.
Superior data and security in a rugged device
Panasonic delivers unparalleled security for its defence clients, and can completely remove components such as Wi-Fi; Bluetooth connectivity; cameras; and microphones – providing absolute security against unauthorised access from illicit third-party devices.
TOUGHBOOK devices can be equipped with NATO-approved secure drives or data-at-rest cryptography drives from Viasat. This includes the Eclypt® Core encrypted internal Solid State Drive (SSD), certified for use in the UK for securing Top Secret information, and Viasat’s DARC SSD, offering military-grade 256-bit hardware encryption and enhanced security using two-factor authentication.
All military-grade TOUGHBOOK devices meets the highest standards for protection against drops, vibrations, sand, dust, rain, altitude, extreme temperatures, certified to rigorous MIL-STD-810H[1] standards.
Charlotte Langridge, Business Manager (Public Sector), Panasonic TOUGHBOOK, said: ‘’For defence organisations, ensuring that mission-critical data can be safely shared and accessed is critically important, irrespective of location or environment. TOUGHBOOK Secure provides a one-stop-shop for international defence partners to optimise military operations with Panasonic’s specialist mobile devices and end-to-end support before, during, and after deployments.”
